Course Description
This intensive four-week course will guide you from your very first cut to a fully polished short film ready for export. Through live demonstrations, hands-on practice, and real-time feedback, you will master Adobe Premiere Pro workflows for cutting, audio mixing, color correction, titling, and final delivery.
Course Schedule & Assignments
Week 1 (July 12): What Is Editing?

Lecture & Discussion: History, theory, and key terminology (cuts, montage, pacing).

“Before & After” Clips: Watch and analyze how editing shapes a scene.

Break-out Discussion: Share a favorite edit from a film or online video

Week 2 (July 19): Project Setup & Rough Cut

Software Demo: Premiere Pro interface, folder structures, bins, proxies.

Rough-Cut Techniques: Trim tool, ripple/roll edits, insert vs. overwrite, basic transitions.

Live Practice: Import provided clips and assemble a one-minute rough cut.

Week 3 (July 26): Audio, Music & Pacing

Audio Foundations: Cleaning dialogue, adjusting gain, applying keyframes.

Music Syncing: Choosing tracks, matching edits to rhythm, crossfades, volume envelopes.

Portfolio preparation
Week 4 (August 02): Color, Titles & Final Export

Color Correction Basics: Using the Lumetri Color panel—white balance, contrast, saturation, LUTs.

Titling & Credits: Creating lower thirds, main titles, and rolling end credits with style consistency.

Exporting: Presets for H.264 web delivery and broadcast-quality exports.

INSTRUCTOR
DAGMAWI ABEBE, M.F.A.
Dagmawi Abebe (Dag) is an award-winning Ethiopian-born American Writer, Director, and Editor. He pursued a major in Physics and a minor in Film Studies at the University of Virginia, honing his unique blend of analytical thinking and creative vision before getting his Master of Fine Arts in Film and TV Production from the University of Southern California.

He has received numerous accolades for his work, including the Directors Guild of America Student Jury Prize and the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation Grant. On top of theatrical and streaming platforms such as Hulu, Dag's films have also been celebrated at prestigious film festivals worldwide, including the Tribeca Film Festival, Warsaw International Film Festival, and International Rome Film Fest. With a genuine passion for storytelling, Dag pushes the boundaries of artistic expression, crafting immersive narratives that resonate with audiences worldwide. He's currently based in Los Angeles.
